Welcome to the web site of Elizabeth Wallace.
Elizabeth’s first book, Extraordinary Places Close to London, published by Hastings House,
offers a unique look at over 30 villages and towns around London. For over 20 years, Elizabeth
was often approached by her American friends and family who had visited all
the usual places such as the Tower
of London and Buckingham
Palace and were now ready to explore
the “real England…those
special places that only an individual who lived in the country would know
about.” Extraordinary Places Close to
London fulfills this request and provides the visitor information about
30 towns or villages all within about an hour or two of London.
In addition to the 30 main towns and villages, Elizabeth includes an additional 17
neighboring places close to the main locations. The places included were chosen
either for their historical interest or exceptional beauty, but in most cases
the traveler can find both attributes in one location. Many of the villages
were known personally by Elizabeth
as a child, others were discovered for the first time when she researched the
book.
Although she now lives in Colorado,
Elizabeth was born, educated and lived most of
her adult life in England.
She understands how difficult it can be for a traveler to arrive at Heathrow
or Gatwick, rent a car, drive on the opposite side of the road and yet find
interesting and worthwhile places to visit. Hopefully, Extraordinary Places Close to London can lighten that load by
offering a fellow traveler a new and interesting place to visit, driving
directions, a place to eat, and perhaps even a great place to stay the night.
