Christmas Past in Essex

Essex is particularly rich in traditions and customs especially at Christmas time.  Families continue to sing songs on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day that have been passed down for generations.  As Londoners and others migrated to the suburbs they brought with their own special customs that merged with the centuries old customs of Essex.  Traditions such as stirring the Christmas pudding, breaking the wishbone for luck and wishing a family good health and wealth with the first footing ceremony on New Years Eve are kept to this day.

Due to extensive television and radio coverage before Christmas 2007 the book sold out and is currently in its second printing.
