Kansas City in Vintage
Postcards
Kansas
City in Vintage Postcards tells just a small part of city’s history through a
collection of vintage postcards that provide a valuable insight into the
lives and times of the people of Kansas
City. The postcards themselves tell the history in
their own words and provide a unique opportunity by giving us a glimpse into
people’s lives, their happiness and their concerns. They used postcards to
communicate to family and loved ones and echo many themes: anger, longing,
reassurance of safety, questions about personal likes and dislikes. The
postcards are reminiscent of the old party telephones lines where neighbors
or the operator easily heard all communications. The book begins in the late
1800s and ends during the 1940s, a rich and interesting time in the town’s
history.
Elizabeth
and her close friend, Darlene Isaacson,
collaborated on this book by using a personal collection of vintage
postcards.
